Planning and Zoning

The Cape Girardeau City Charter allows the city council to create boards and commissions at its discretion. It specifically requires only one, the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Section 5.06. Planning and zoning commission.

The council shall establish and maintain a planning and zoning commission whose 
powers and duties are prescribed by ordinance in a manner not inconsistent with this charter or 
the requirements of state statutes.
